The 49th Union World Conference on Lung Health will take place in The Hague, The Netherlands, from 24-27 October 2018. We are pleased to inform you that participants of the Union World Conference can apply for a visa free of charge to attend the conference.
Visa applicants must, however, pay a service charge of up to 30 euros if applying through an external service provider. Delegates are advised to contact their nearest consulate to determine the visa requirements for The Netherlands and apply for a visa, if necessary.
Delegates may submit their visa applications up to three months in advance. Visa applicants must make an appointment through the embassy or service provider’s website. The Union advises all delegates needing visas to apply as early as possible – and no later than 10 September 2018 – to allow for adequate processing time.
Delegates wishing to remain in The Netherlands or other Schengen territories for a maximum of 90 days should apply for a short-stay Schengen visa, depending on the delegate’s nationality. Visa applications must be sent to the relevant Dutch embassy, consulate or representing consular Schengen office in the delegate’s country of residence.
The nationality of the participants and delegates will determine whether or not they are required to apply for a visa. More information is available on this website.
In most countries, applications must be submitted through an external service provider’s office. The external service provider will charge a handling fee of up to 30 euros. The delegate is responsible for covering this expense.
In some countries, The Netherlands is represented by another Schengen country for visa affairs. Although The Union has requested that these countries waive the visa fees, this cannot be guaranteed.
Please take careful note of the documents to submit when applying for a visa for business purposes. Visa requirements and application guidelines differ from country to country.
If you require a visa, please consult the visa application guidelines and requirements page here.
Delegates who require a visa must obtain and submit an official letter of invitation from the Conference Secretariat to facilitate the visa process. Please note that letters of invitation are only issued to registered and paid/approved delegates.
Delegates attending several events in The Netherlands this year – such as AIDS2018 – are advised to apply for a multi-entry visa, also available free of charge. Please apply for multi-entry visas early – before 1 June 2018. Applications will require all necessary documentation for both events (letters of invitation, return airfare and medical insurance).
Certain goods are illegal to bring into The Netherlands and other items require additional duty payment. More information on Dutch customs regulations is available here.
