Local Hosts

The Union is proud to have KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation and The City of The Hague as local hosts of the 49th Union World Conference on Lung Health.

We are delighted to have such strong local partners supporting our efforts to bring discussion, debate and, ultimately, change to the lung health community.

KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation

KNCV is one of the world’s leading TB expert agencies. KNCV was established in 1903 as the umbrella organisation of Dutch civil society organisations involved in TB care. Since then, KNCV has been dedicated to fighting TB for almost 115 years and is active in more than 20 countries.

KNCV has already successfully been the local host of the Union World Conference on two previous occasions, namely 1932 and 1967. In this pivotal year, which also sees the first UN High-Level Meeting on ending TB, it is an honour for the conference to return to The Hague, a city with origins deeply entrenched in peace and justice.

“We need to accelerate the introduction of new tools and shorter injectable free regimens to reduce suffering and death from drug-resistant forms of TB. The Netherlands has unique expertise and an innovative track record in this field. The Union World Conference is the perfect platform to share and exchange that knowledge.”

Kitty van Weezenbeek
Executive Director, KNCV

KNCV has been actively involved in The Union’s work for many decades, including holding positions on the Board of Directors and on scientific committees. KNCV is fully committed to supporting The Union in ensuring the 49th Union World Conference on Lung Health is a success.

2018 is also a very special year for KNCV as it celebrates its 115th anniversary during the Union World Conference.
