25 October, 19:30 – 21:30
As part of De Ontmoeting: Community Connect, The Union is collaborating with Movies That Matter, to show a film ‘Breathless’ (Ademloos in Dutch) from Daniel Lambo. The screening encourages participants to explore the issues surrounding air pollution, and its effect on communities.
Following the death of his father and others in his Belgian village, filmmaker Daniel Lambo sets out to find the truth about the deadly asbestos industry.
Lambo visits an active asbestos factory in the Indian village of Kymore, where pollution is harming local residents. He meets Nirmala, a former teacher and mother, who is fighting for the numerous victims of Kymore, and for a healthy and safe environment.
Supported by Indian lawyer and activist, Tublu Krishnendu Mukherjee, they look to file a lawsuit against the Belgian company responsible for the pollution. The film explores the significant resistance they meet from the polluting companies.
Join the screening of Breathless as part of the Union World Conference’s community space, De Ontmoeting: Community Connect, which is free and open to the public. There will be a discussion after the showing.
